Like most new projects, our DachFreelancer idea is rooted in a personal experience. In a very simple one. We needed a German speaking professional for a specific project, hence we were looking for a freelancer. Piece of cake, right? I wish.
While English freelancer sites overwhelm the net, your options to find a German speaking expert is more than limited. I was shocked by the lack of online possibilities and the quality of the platforms that I could actually find. Designs are heinous and old-fashioned, usability is outrageous and they just make you feel like it’s the 90s all over again. Nothing wrong with the 90s, don’t get me wrong, but this is the 21st century, let’s keep up with the innovations.
Naturally, I expressed my dissatisfaction and frustration (in a quite long and emotional way) to my colleagues. One word led to another and the decision was made. If there is no quality website for German freelancer, then we will make one.
If the mountain won't come to Muhammad then Muhammad must go to the mountain.
– English proverb
So, DachFreelancer project was born. Dach is an abbreviation referring to the three main German speaking countries: D for Germany (Deutschland), A for Austria and CH for Switzerland (Confoederatio Helvetica). Also, Dach means ‘roof’ in German implying the fact that the website gathers all the independent professionals of the three countries under one roof. Cunning, isn’t it?
We have already compiled the design of the UI (user interface) and now the project is in the development phase getting ready to launch. Although the official go-live is about a month away, you can subscribe now on the website to be informed when the portal is up and running and you can register, upload your profile for free.
