Our relationship is…well, complicated. And this is putting it nicely. The German language for me is like having a fickle colleague who constantly irritates you, yet you are forced to collaborate with her (I think it’s a she, isn’t it?). But when you are literally on the verge of rage, she shows you a glimpse of hope that you can maybe…just maybe be good friends. So, you keep trying to hit it off with her.

More often than not, however, she drives me completely nuts. You ask how? I’ll tell you how. Every time when I think: “This is it! Now I got it, I’ve cracked the code to get along with her”, she shoves yet another exemption or special case or an inexplicable rule right into my face and I am back at square one. Feeling defeated and desperate, I decide that this relationship has to stop and it’s time to break up.

I go through that emotional roller-coaster once a week at least, but we are still together. She still torments me on a daily basis and I still forgive her every single time. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? Or you just end up in a straight jacket. I hope for the former, though.

Checking funny memes about learning German certainly cheers me up, and since it’s Friday, let’s have fun!

What is your experience with German? Tell me about your road below.
